.DISCUSSION...Tonight and Tuesday...
Another winter system is expected to bring accumulating snowfall
to the mountains beginning early Tuesday morning. Increasing
westerly flow aloft is expected as the system approaches, that
will bring gusty winds to the eastern slopes of the Front Range
Mountains late tonight into Tuesday morning. 25-35 kt winds will
be possible with some stronger gusts likely in our typical windy
spots in Boulder and Larimer Counties. The increased moisture will
keep RH values well above critical thresholds. Smoke dispersal
will be Poor across the majority of the forecast area on Tuesday,
with patchy Fair to Good conditions expected in the afternoon along
the foothills and highest elevations where increased winds are
expected.
LONG TERM DISCUSSION...Tuesday night through Saturday...
A winter storm will bring several inches of snow to our mountains,
foothills, I-25 corridor, and potentially portions of the plains
Tuesday night into Wednesday. Dry weather will prevail Thursday,
with mostly light winds and "Fair" or better afternoon smoke
dispersal. A few mountain snow showers may return Friday, but
lower elevations will remain dry. Winds will begin to strengthen,
especially at higher elevations, with favorable smoke dispersal
again. Saturday looks to bring increased potential for more
substantial mountain snowfall, as well as notably stronger winds
across the entire region. Some mountain wave activity will be
possible during this period. Smoke dispersal will remain highly
favorable through the weekend.
