A cold front has gone through all the terminals and winds have
shifted to the northeast. This front brought enough moisture
behind it that stratus clouds have formed at BJC and APA that may
last until 10-11Z. Ceilings will be around 1,000-1,500 feet. Winds
will return to a light drainage or light and variable at all
terminals for the rest of the night.
Winds are expected to stay light throughout the morning hours due
to a lack of mixing. By the afternoon, warmer air aloft along with
the sunshine may be able to create stronger mixing. This would
bring down gusty westerly winds at all terminals. Gusts could
reach 40 knots at BJC and 35 knots at DEN. However, there is
considerable uncertainty with this since the models often over do
the mixing. So light and variable winds may continue through much
of the afternoon at all terminals.
By the evening on Wednesday, confidence is growing that westerly
winds will become persistent at the terminals with gusts up to 25
knots.

Strong northwest flow aloft will weaken through the night,
as passing wave continues to translate east. This passing wave
will allow for cold front to push across the plains, with north
to northeast at COS and PUB through the late evening, becoming
east to southeast overnight and persist through the late
afternoon, before west to northwest flow develops after sunset.
Latest model data does indicate the potential for MVFR cigs
developing at COS and PUB by 14Z, as low level east to
southeast flow deepens. If MVFR cigs develop, should see VFR
conditions back by 18Z, which should persist through the rest
of the taf period.
VFR conditions with generally light winds are expected at ALS
through this taf period.

A frontal boundary draped across portions of northwest Colorado
is responsible for breakpoint conditions at mountain terminals,
including KASE, KEGE, and KHDN. Rain and snow showers are
expected on the northern mountains of Colorado through the early
morning hours. This feature will lift northward enough for
improvements at KASE and KEGE Wednesday afternoon, while KHDN
will remain under a cloud deck into the late afternoon, as cloud
cover gets trapped against the Divide. Elsewhere, VFR
conditions with light winds under high pressure will continue
through the period.

A frontal boundary draped across portions of northwest Colorado
is responsible for breakpoint conditions at mountain terminals,
including KASE, KEGE, and KHDN. Rain and snow showers are
expected on the northern mountains of Colorado through the early
morning hours. This feature will lift northward enough for
improvements at KASE and KEGE Wednesday afternoon, while KHDN
will remain under a cloud deck into the late afternoon, as cloud
cover gets trapped against the Divide. Elsewhere, VFR
conditions with light winds under high pressure will continue
through the period.

through the period. Dry conditions will continue with cigs expected
to drop to or near 6kft agl around 02z and remain there into
tomorrow morning. Winds are expected to remain south through the
evening, with a 20 percent chance of gusts to near 20kts between 01-
04Z with any mountain showers passing well to the north.
.REST OF UTAH AND SOUTHWEST WYOMING...VFR conditions are expected
to persist for the entire airspace through the period. Cigs
hovering between 4-6kft agl will continue across the northern
airspace with some light mountain showers forecast between 01-05Z
across the far northern mountains. Elsewhere, conditions will
remain dry with light and diurnally driven winds, though gusty SW
winds will likely continue at EVW well into the evening hours.

VFR conditions ongoing at all locations and throughout the
period expected. Low ceilings but VFR for JAC/COD/CPR with light
rain/snow mix overnight ending between 12-15Z. Mid level
ceilings there after at all locations, more upper level for
LND/RIW/RKS further south. Gusty winds once again remaining
elevated at RKS overnight peaking up to 40kts after 11Z with a
resurgent low level jet towards sunrise Wednesday morning. All
other locations will see 25-30kt gusts after 17-18Z through
00-01Z diminishing some after sunset but remaining elevated for
RKS/CPR/JAC, as well as COD/RIW with the persistent west to
northwest funneling flow. Precipitation chances will wane come
Thursday morning in the next TAF cycle as this ongoing system
exits to the east.

A mix of flight categories expected early on thanks to snow,
primarily impacting KCYS/KLAR with MVFR to IFR conditions
possible. Once these snow showers pass in the next few hours,
expecting widespread VFR conditions through the end of the TAF
period as CIGs should remain at mid to high levels. Winds will
lessen for the most part overnight tonight though some breezy
conditions could be possible primarily at KLAR/KRWL. Then into
tomorrow gusty winds return all sites with speeds in the 25-40
knot range. As these winds begin mixing down, low level wind
shear is also expected.

both terminals with wind gusts up to 35 KTS at the KVTN terminal

diminish somewhat. Winds on Wednesday will be from the west or
northwest at 10 to 20 KTS in the morning, diminishing to under
10 KTS in the afternoon. Skies will be mainly clear tonight into
Wednesday morning with scattered ceilings around 20000 FT AGL.
Cloud cover will increase Wednesday afternoon with ceilings
falling to 6000 to 12000 FT AGL Wednesday evening.

Wind gusts exceeding 40 mph accompanied a cold front that was
moving across west central and north central Kansas at 11 pm
this Tuesday night. Short term models are in agreement that this
cold front will drop south of the Oklahoma border by 09Z, with
the gusty north winds continuing. Stronger winds appear to be
just behind the front. Based on guidance and the latest models,
these stronger winds will last 3-5 hours after the cold frontal
passage before starting to subside. A 50 knot 850mb jet over
western Kansas at 05z based on SPC MESOANAL will move into
eastern Kansas after daybreak. As a result even accounting for
mixing potential, the northwest winds will gradually diminish
during the day on Wednesday as an area of high pressure builds
into western Kansas. Mean wind speeds should fall back to around
15 knots between 12z and 15z today and then decrease to near 10
knots between 21Z today and 00Z Thursday. Following the cold
frontal passage, overnight ceilings will be at or above 9000 ft
AGL.

VFR conditions expected to prevail through the next 24 hours. West
winds should be shifting to the north right at or shortly after
the start of this 06Z TAF period. The cold front causing this
shift is expected to have a low level jet causing some LLWS early
in this period just behind the boundary. That is, as long as the
winds don`t mix down to the surface. Otherwise, some amendments
may be needed to add gusts upwards of 35 to maybe 40 kts taking
away the need for LLWS.

A mix of light and terrain driven surface winds with stronger
northwesterly winds over the highlands continues this hour. As
such, LLWS remains a concern at KROW. A cold front advancing
southward from CO will bring a northerly/northeasterly wind shift
thru eastern NM early Wednesday morning. Guidance is showing
potential for potent LLWS across a wide portion of the eastern
plains impacting KTCC and KCVN with lower confidence for KROW
where strong winds will exist just off the surface out of the
northeast early Wednesday morning. This will subside by midday as
surface winds steadily veer out of the south in the afternoon.
Otherwise, VFR prevails areawide.
