.DISCUSSION...
Dry weather conditions will continue through the remainder of
today and well into tomorrow. Relative humidity values this
afternoon are already bottoming out near critical values around
30% in the Champlain, Connecticut, and St. Lawrence Valleys. Winds
are generally southerly and light only 5 to 10 mph, which should
limit any fire weather concerns through the evening. A few showers
and thunderstorms have developed over the higher terrain of the
Adirondacks and eastern Greens. Light precipitation amounts, only
a few hundreths are expected with most remaining dry. A rare dry
thunderstorm cannot be ruled out given how dry the surface is
currently.
Tomorrow, fire weather concerns will be heightened with minimum
relative humidity values in the 25-35% range, particularly in the
Champlain and Connecticut River Valleys. Winds ahead of an
approaching cold front will be gusty up to 35 mph at times in the
north to south oriented valleys. Recent dryness in the Connecticut
and lower Champlain Valleys will contribute to near critical fire
weather concerns throughout the day. Wetting rain from showers
and embedded thunderstorms will arrive in the St. Lawrence Valley
early Thursday afternoon and by Thursday night in Vermont with the
arrival of the cold front. Winds will abate with the onset of
precipitation. Lingering shower chances continue into the weekend.
