- Windy conditions continue today, with gusts of 20 to 45 mph,
  greatest in eastern MT. This will cause elevated fire weather

.DISCUSSION...

Today through Monday...

Windy conditions will continue today as the influence of an upper
low moving across southern Canada remains over the region. West to
northwest winds gusting 20 to 45 mph will be common, with the
strongest gusts in eastern Montana. The chance for precipitation
today will be fairly low, with the exception of isolated showers
and thunderstorms late this afternoon and evening as a weak wave
moves across the state. The primary concerns with any activity
will be gusty winds.

While temperatures will be slightly below normal today (highs in
the 70s to around 80), the dry and windy conditions will result
in elevated fire weather conditions.

Warmer and drier conditions continue Wednesday and Thursday, with
temperatures climbing back into the 80s to low 90s (warmest
Thursday). Breezy winds will continue each day, with gusts in the
20s to 40s mph, strongest in the foothills west of Billings and
all area mountains each day. The combination of above normal
temperatures, low relative humidity values, and windy conditions
will bring elevated fire weather conditions each day, especially
Thursday. Please take care not to cause a spark!

Looking towards Friday and the weekend, forecast certainty
decreases. Several modals continue to show a cooler and wetter
system digging into the region but disagree on the track at this
time. Mountain snowfall will be possible with this system so
continue to monitor the forecast if you have outdoor plans in the

.AVIATION...

06z TAF/Aviation Discussion...Gusty winds will be the main
aviation impact over the next 24 hours. Westerly wind gusts to
25kts will continue through 09z over the western half of the
forecast area, then diminishing toward sunrise. In the eastern
half, gusty west winds will increase just after sunrise with gusts
in the 25-35kt range becoming common into the afternoon hours.
Latest HRRR does show a few showers/thunderstorms crossing the
area this afternoon, developing near Billings around 21-22z and
shifting east toward Miles City by 01z and dissipating shortly
thereafter. Main impact with this activity will be to gusty winds
30-40kts as they push stronger winds aloft toward the surface.
