Gusty southwest winds (to 40 mph) and drier conditions (relative humidity of 20-25%) are expected today over the higher terrain of south central Montana including the Gallatin and Beartooths. This will produce elevated fire weather conditions for the high elevations of the Gallatin National Forest district. Brisk southeast winds (30-45 mph) are expected over the Montana/Dakotas border region, as a low level jet forms this evening. Showers and a few thunderstorms spread across the area tonight with a cold frontal passage. Tonight there is about a 30% chance for wind gusts to at least 50 mph across the Beartooth foothills due to mountain wave activity. For Monday, expect dry conditions and brisk west winds. Gusts 30-40 mph will be common across the districts, with 45-55 mph possible from Big Timber north through Judith Gap. While a few showers are possible mid week, a weather system towards the latter half of the week looks to be the next potential for widespread precipitation.
