Rangeland Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service Sioux Falls SD
404 AM CST Mon Nov 17 2025

.DISCUSSION...
A dry morning will give way to increasing rain coverage through
the afternoon, especially along and north of I-90. A band of
moderate to briefly heavy precipitation will then persist through
tonight, most likely near the Highway 14 corridor from east
central South Dakota into southern Minnesota. A rain/snow mix to
all snow will develop within this band tonight, with light
accumulations of snow for some locations (highest across the
Buffalo Ridge north of MN Highway 30).

Temperatures remain chilly on Tuesday, otherwise mostly dry and
seasonably mild temperatures will dominate the rest of this week
into next weekend.

...MODERATE FIRE DANGER...

The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the moderate
category this afternoon. Marginal weather conditions or
lowering moisture content of grasses, and other dry organic
material on the ground, indicate that there is some potential
for a fire to spread. Any outdoor burning should be closely
monitored.

OUTLOOK FOR TUESDAY AFTERNOON...The Grassland Fire Danger Index
will reach the low category.

The grassland fire danger product reflects fire danger for native
grasses. It is not intended for cured agricultural crops, nor
will it reflect conditions in road ditches which have been mowed.
