291 FXUS61 KGYX 161441 AAA AFDGYX Area Forecast Discussion...UPDATED National Weather Service Gray ME 1040 AM EDT Mon Jun 16 2025 .SYNOPSIS... The rest of the day will see sunshine and temperatures climbing into the 70s this afternoon. We repeat the pattern tonight, with areas of fog developing near the coast after dark. Temperature and humidity will continue to creep up through midweek. By Thursday a cold front will approach from the west and bring a threat of showers and thunderstorms. && .NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/... 1035 AM Update...No changes needing to the going forecast at this point in time other than loading in current temps and dewpoints. Update...Minor changes to reflect latest observational trends. Previous discussion...Areas of fog have developed near the coast this morning in light onshore flow. This is expected to scatter out fairly quickly after sunrise. Temps will moderate a bit today...climbing slightly higher than yesterday. There may be a stray shower in the mtns this afternoon...but otherwise will be dry. && .SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 PM TUESDAY/... There is little overall change in the weather pattern tonight. So cool temps and weak onshore winds should keep the threat of marine fog and stratus present. I have a little more widespread fog than tonight...moving inland thru the overnight hours. I also added some drizzle near the immediate coast. Much like this afternoon...Tue afternoon may see some diurnal showers. Temps will again be seasonable...away from the coast...with widespread readings in the 70s. && .LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/... Evening Update...No significant changes to the forecast after implementing the latest long range NBM. Widespread showers remain likely beginning Tuesday night, with chances of afternoon thunderstorms through the end of week. Previous Discussion... High pressure will remain just offshore on Tuesday. The will aid in the development of a WAA pattern with a few showers and possibly a thunderstorm during the afternoon, especially in the far interior where heating should be greater. With the WAA pattern will come clouds too, so we expect a mostly cloudy day with temperatures really not that much warmer than the mid 70s inland and around 70, if not 60s along the coast. The WAA pattern will continue on Wednesday with an increasing chance for showers and thunderstorms. SFC temps should get into the 80s during the afternoon after any morning action. Dew points will be on the rise also. A significant cold front approaches the region on Thursday. Temperatures in the 80s to around 90 with dew points well into the 60s should make for a hot and humid day at many locations in the forecast area as long as clouds and showers don`t get going too early. Depending on the timing of the cold front, a few thunderstorms may be strong to severe late afternoon and evening. && .AVIATION /10Z MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/... Short Term...Some areas of IFR or lower conditions this morning in marine fog and stratus. VFR returns after sunrise but areas of IFR or lower are expected again tonight in marine fog and stratus. Once again VFR will be widespread Tue afternoon. Long Term...Onshore flow probably brings in some low stratus and fog, at least at the coast Tuesday night and Wednesday and may last into Thursday. A strong cold front moves through Thu evening with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. && .MARINE... Short Term...Fair conditions thru Tue under high pressure. Areas of fog will be possible near the coastline this morning and again tonight. Long Term...High pressure gradually moves eastward across the North Atlantic through midweek next week with generally fair conditions. However, fog will be possible. A cold front approaches late in the week, with SCA conditions possible in southwesterly flow ahead of the front by late Wednesday or Thursday. && .GYX WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... ME...None.
