.DISCUSSION...
A layer of low stratus clouds will continue to surge northward
across the region early this morning, with the risk for locally
dense freezing fog (across northeast AL) diminishing as this
occurs. Cloudy skies will remain intact for much of the day, with
light rain beginning to overspread the TN Valley from the west
late this afternoon. After a period of light but wetting rainfall
this evening, the precipitation will largely move eastward and out
of the region early Monday morning. However, some sprinkles of
rain (or perhaps a few snow flurries) may occur beneath a
lingering layer of stratus clouds through early Monday afternoon.
Smoke dispersion indices will remain poor today, but will improve
to fair on Monday as mixing heights return to 3500-4000 ft and
transport winds increase to 10-15 MPH. In the extended period, we
still expect dry conditions and a warming trend to exist on
Tuesday/Wednesday, followed by another potential round of light
precipitation Wednesday night-Thursday night. This will be
followed by a much colder airmass at the end of next week.
Fog potential over the next few days: Mist and fog will occur
region-wide through the late morning hours today (along with
freezing fog across northeast AL). Although similar conditions
will return with light rain this evening, development of fog
appears less likely beyond this point.
Potential for Red Flag Conditions: None at this time.
