.DISCUSSION...

Abundant high-level clouds will continue to stream across the
region this morning, with a light SSW wind expected to veer to WSW
after sunrise and increase sharply (with sustained speeds of
10-15 MPH and frequent gusts of 20-30 MPH at the 20-ft level).
Winds will begins to relax late this afternoon as a cold front
enters the region, and although a few showers will be possible
along the front, probabilities for wetting rainfall are very low.
Light NNW winds will draw a colder airmass southward into the
region overnight as postfrontal low clouds persist across
northeast AL, and it appears as if this airmass will linger into
the day on Thursday. Mixing heights of 4000-5000 ft and transport
winds of 25-30 MPH will lead to good smoke dispersion indices
today, before falling into the fair-generally good category on
Thursday. In the extended portion of the forecast, mild conditions
will return on Friday/Saturday, before a short-lived but intense
drop in temperatures (in the wake of a strong cold front) late
this weekend. A gradual warming trend will begin early next week.
