Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Eastern Kentucky
National Weather Service Jackson KY
345 PM EST Tue Dec 9 2025

.DISCUSSION...Drier weather is expected through tonight as
high pressure passes to our south and east. However, another
quick moving system will track from the Alberta to the Great
Lakes by tonight and then into the St Lawrence Valley on Wednesday.
Ahead of that system, it will become windy on Wednesday with
southwesterly winds gusting to between 30 and 40 mph. The cold
front associated with that system will cross eastern KY Wednesday
afternoon/evening followed by a secondary front Wednesday night to
early on Thursday. The first front will bring a good chance for
rain/graupel showers perhaps mixed with snow. As colder air moves
in behind it and with the secondary front any additional
precipitation should be snow showers. Another system could bring
accumulating snow north of the Mountain Parkway and across the Big
Sandy Basin Thursday night into Friday.
