Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Western
and North Central for Nebraska
National Weather Service North Platte NE
245 PM CDT Wed Sep 3 2025

.DISCUSSION...

A few smoky days are in store, as northwesterly wind aloft tracks
smoke from wildfires across western Canada and the western United
States into the region. Smoke is mainly expected to remain across
north central and eastern Nebraska tonight into the early morning
hours. Tomorrow, a second round is expected across western
Nebraska and the Sandhills.

Tomorrow, elevated to near critical fire weather conditions will
be possible across the Panhandle into the western Sandhills,
mainly Zones 204, 208, and northern portions of 206. The fire
weather concerns are largely driven by westerly to northwesterly
winds gusting to 35 mph in the afternoon to early evening.
Temperatures climb into the 80s across the region along a warm
front, with a cold front bringing the stronger winds in the
afternoon. Little to no precipitation is expected with this front,
but there is high confidence in the gusty winds. Humidity remains
somewhat marginal, with values only dropping around 20 to 30
percent.

Beyond Thursday, fire weather conditions become fairly limited. A
cool, dry pattern develops this weekend, with a return to near
seasonal temperatures early to mid next week. Through this span,
little to no precipitation is expected. Humidity values may
approach the 20 to 30 percent range across western Nebraska a few
days in this stretch, however, winds are generally expected to
remain under 20 mph.
