Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
138 AM CDT Tue Sep 8 2026

.DISCUSSION...

Low fire weather conditions persist due to min RH remaining above
critical 15%, good overnight recovery and light 20-ft winds
largely below 20 miles per hour, despite ERCs in the 50th to 74th
percentile and continued very warm to hot temperatures. Fire
starts from lightning and strong, erratic winds in isolated
daytime storms are possible, but overall risk of ignition and fire
spread will remain low. A warming trend in temperatures mid to
late this week may dry out fuels more before cooler temperatures
and rain chances return over the weekend.
