Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Eastern North Carolina
National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City NC
323 AM EDT Sat Aug 22 2026

.DISCUSSION...
The increased thunderstorm risk continues today, with an area
average of 0.10" to 0.50" of rain expected (highest near the
coast). Drier air begins to work in Sunday and Monday as a strong
cold front moves in. Much of the area should see relative
humidities drop down into the 40s behind the front. The exception
is along the coast where the front may stall, keeping relative
humidities and the chance of scattered thunderstorms higher.
Despite the drier airmass moving in, fire concerns will remain at
a minimum as winds are expected to be light behind the front.
