Mesoscale Precipitation Discussion 1104
NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD
330 PM EDT Fri Aug 21 2026
Areas affected...Central to southern Georgia
Concerning...Heavy rainfall...Flash flooding possible
Valid 211930Z - 220030Z
Summary...Recently fired convection across central Georgia could
produce flash flooding downstream through Southeast Georgia, where
favorable instability (2000-3000 ML CAPE) & moisture (1.5-2"
PWATs) are present.
Discussion...Convection initiated along a pre-frontal surface
trough oriented West to East across central Georgia. These storms
are expected to propagate southeastward into a substantially moist
and unstable environment. Precipitable water values between 1.5-2
inches in southeast Georgia/northern Florida combined with a mixed
layer CAPE environment of 2000-3500J/Kg will support rates in
excess of 2"/hr
Hi-res guidance suggest a scattered heavy rainfall footprint with
pockets of 1-2" rates and isolated 6 hour totals of 2-4" in parts
of southern Georgia. Flash flooding is possible, especially in
vulnerable areas from recent rainfall and poor drainage spots.
