Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Pago Pago AS
154 PM SST Sun Dec 7 2025

.Short term...

Satellite imagery shows a mix of sun and clouds with a few passing
showers over the American Samoa islands this morning and early
afternoon. With a low pressure system located to the south of
Fiji, this has generated northeasterly winds over the territory
with gusts reaching up to 20 mph. The northeasterly winds are
anticipated to increase the likelihood of rainfall to numerous
showers (60% chance) from tonight through Monday night. Flash
flooding is not anticipated from these showers.

As the aforementioned low continues to move away, winds become
easterly by Tuesday over the territory and is expected to
decrease through Wednesday night. If showers develop along the
easterly flow, it would be in the passing form. Otherwise, we
expect a mix of sun and clouds throughout Tuesday and Wednesday.

.Long term...

For late this week and into the upcoming weekend, easterly flow
continues to decrease to light and variable winds making for a
warmer than average and humid timeframe. At this time, it appears
as if showers develop it would be in the passing form.

Tropical formation is not anticipated near the American Samoa
region for the next 7 days.

.Marine...

PacIOOS buoy data to the east of Aunu`u early this afternoon shows
waves around 7 feet. The latest ASCAT data shows winds around 10
to 15 knots throughout the American Samoa coastal waters, but wind
gusts have reached up to 20 knots at times during the late
morning and early afternoon hours. This is projected to create
choppy seas with swell coming from the south/southwest. Due to
this conditions, a Small Craft Advisory is now in effect. The
moderate northeasterly breeze is anticipated to decrease slowly
starting Monday and to become a gentle to moderate easterly breeze
on Tuesday and Wednesday. As winds decrease, seas are anticipated
to ease.
