434 FXZS60 NSTU 280055 AFDPPG Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Pago Pago AS 155 PM SST Wed Aug 27 2025 .Short term... Satellite imagery throughout the morning hours showed moisture from the north of American Samoa being absorbed into a trough to the south giving cloudy skies with showers throughout the territory. However, the trough from the south is beginning to move further away from the area to reduce it`s influence over the islands. This is leading to a reduction of showers from numerous to scattered throughout the evening with flash flooding unlikely during this time. Easterly winds remain around 15 mph. By Thursday afternoon and evening, drier air to projected to move over the region to reduce cloud coverage to partly cloudy skies. Overall, rainfall is forecast to decrease through early Friday morning with flash flooding remaining unlikely. For Friday, passing showers will likely increase with easterly trades but severe weather is not expected. Otherwise, a mix of sun and clouds are forecast with winds remaining around 15 mph. .Long term... For the weekend, isolated to scattered passing showers are forecast as easterly trades of around 15 mph remain. By Monday, a high pressure system from the southwest moves closer to American Samoa to increase winds up to 20 mph with higher gusts and is to remain through midweek. These winds are below the Wind Advisory criteria. Showers are forecast to be average to below average for this time period. && .Marine... Rough seas remained as breezy easterlies continue over the American Samoa coastal waters today. However, winds are expected to slowly decrease through Friday which will decrease wind driven seas. Since there are no major swell projected to move through the region during this time, seas are forecast to slowly ease. The timing of the High Surf Advisory along the eastern coastlines has shortened to Thursday, but the Small Craft Advisory could be in place for the weekend as seas still remain choppy from the easterlies. && .PPG WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
