.Discussion...
Very dry and windy conditions are expected for all areas west of I-
25 today, to include all of our mountain ranges and mountain
valleys. Humidity values are expected to fall into the low teens and
single digits, with west winds gusting to 40 mph. Though dry and
windy conditions are expected for all zones, fuels are only critical
for zones 220 and 223, which include Lake and Chaffee counties,
along with the La Garitas and the San Juans. These zones are under
Red Flag Warnings for today. Please avoid activities that could
start a wildfire in our mountains today, especially in these areas!
For our plains, expect dry and windy conditions along the southern I-
25 corridor, with chances for strong to severe storms elsewhere
behind a cold front boundary that stalls out across our eastern
plains today. This will keep temperatures near normal for today and Wed,
but the front will also increase chances for severe storms
today. Chances for storms decrease significantly starting tomorrow.
Thursday through Saturday will be hot, dry and windy. Though many
of our zones have seen green up, this period could change the tide in some
areas. If fuels status begins to changes, widespread critical fire
weather headlines may be possible for Friday and Saturday. Our
flow aloft becomes more southwesterly by Sunday and Monday, which
looks to at least bring in enough mid-level moisture for some cloud
cover and some possible relief from the above normal temperatures.
Afternoon smoke dispersion rates will be excellent over the high
country today, and generally fair or better over the plains. Rates
look to be good or better for all zones tomorrow.
