...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM THIS MORNING TO 10 PM
MDT TUESDAY...
.DISCUSSION...The forecast pattern will change minimally Monday and
Tuesday as a broad system approaching from the west results in a
continuation of deep southwesterly flow combined with mild and dry
conditions. Winds will largely favor a south to southwesterly
directional component, though they may become slightly more terrain
driven during the overnight period if mixing decreases enough.
During the daytime, the southwesterly winds will increase into the
30-45 mph range, with locally some gusts to or in excess of 50 mph
possible at higher ridgetop elevations. Afternoon humidity values
both Monday and Tuesday afternoon will fall into the teens.
The system will push a dry cold front as far south as central Utah
during the midweek period. Provided the front pushes far enough
south Tuesday, winds may shift more west to northwesterly in the
afternoon. The front will help temperatures cool very slightly, and
briefly improve overnight humidity recoveries upwards around 15-25%
or so. Daytime humidities will remain very low though, with values
in the teens likely falling near single digits from Thursday into
the weekend. Winds will begin to favor a more westerly direction
during the day with gusts more modest in the 20-25 mph range, and
overnight winds further favoring a light and terrain driven flow.
