Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Las Vegas NV

.KEY MESSAGES...

* A series of disturbances will roll through the Western US this
week, bringing isolated showers to the Great Basin and breezy, dry
  conditions elsewhere in the region.

&&

.DISCUSSION...Today through Sunday.

Late morning satellite imagery shows building cumulus clouds along
the ridges of the southern Great Basin and southern Sierra. A
shortwave trough approaching the central California Coast will
support a few showers and isolated thunderstorms (20 to 30 percent
chance) this afternoon and again tomorrow afternoon over the
mountains surrounding the far northern Owens Valley and across
Esmeralda and central Nye counties. Outside of these areas, no
precipitation is anticipated, though breezy south to southwest winds
of 15 to 25 mph can be expected. As this trough shifts east by mid-
week, upper-level southwesterly flow will set up, pushing any
remaining moisture out of the region. A second trough is forecast to
move into the western US late in the week. While details regarding
timing and intensity remain uncertain, breezy winds and cooler
temperatures are likely to accompany it. These cooler temperatures
should persist as long-term guidance shows this trough-y pattern
continuing through the weekend and into early next week.
