Subject: Updated: Soliciting Comments on the Experimental
National Water Center (NWC) Synthetic Aperture Radar River Ice
Surveillance (SARRIS) Product through August 31, 2027

Updated to include a new link to the NWC SARRIS Product
Description Document

The National Weather Service (NWS) is soliciting comments on the
experimental NWC SARRIS Product through August 31, 2027. The
NWC experimental SARRIS provides periodic intelligence on the
extent of river ice and open water across CONUS and Alaska
during cold seasons based on Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR)
remote sensing analyses. The experimental SARRIS is a two-part
product composed of a geospatial web layer depicting ice and
open water classifications along with brief discussions from NWC
Remote Sensing Analysts describing areas of uncertainties and
issues stemming from the sensors.

A description of the experimental NWC SARRIS Product can be
found at the following link:

Input on the experimental NWC SARRIS Product is being sought
from NWS meteorologists and hydrologists, national and state
partners/customers in water supply and flood forecasting and in
navigation, and various private/public weather data vendors in
the Northern Tier of the U.S. The extended comment period
through 2027 is intended to allow for adequate testing and
feedback of the experimental product through two river ice
seasons.
