Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
346 PM CDT Sat May 11 2024

.DISCUSSION...

Some wetting rains have occurred across portions of the Permian
Basin and a few more storms are possible this afternoon/early
evening. Unfortunately, rain hasn`t fallout out west where it`s
needed the most, but overnight moisture recovery will still be
excellent tonight. Very dry conditions develop by tomorrow
afternoon with increased winds out west. While RFTIs are pushing
5-6+ out west, will maintain the idea of near-critical conditions
due to the good recovery the last few nights and the limited
duration of critical conditions. At the very least, an RFD is
prudent but should any lightning starts occur with this
afternoon`s possible storms, an upgrade may be in order. Beyond
Sunday, it will still be very dry out west each afternoon but
lighter winds keep fire concerns low.
