033 FNUS54 KHUN 142001 FWFHUN Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Alabama National Weather Service Huntsville AL 301 PM CDT Mon Jul 14 2025 .DISCUSSION... Isolated-widely scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue to impact mainly portions of northwest and northeast AL this afternoon, with convection expected to dissipate within an hour or two of sunset. Mostly clear skies and calm winds overnight will support development of patchy fog in a few locations (primarily those that receive wetting rainfall today). Although very little change in this general pattern is expected on Tuesday, a surface trough will approach our region from the east Tuesday night (potentially resulting in a greater coverage of evening thunderstorms across northeast AL). As this boundary progresses westward on Wednesday, the coverage of showers and thunderstorms will increase region-wide. Smoke dispersion indices will range from generally good (NW AL) to fair elsewhere, with mixing heights of 6000-7000 ft and transport winds of 5-10 MPH. In the extended portion of the forecast period, an upper-level ridge of high pressure will remain in place across the region through early next week, leading to a continuation of hot/humid days and warm overnight lows. Although a few afternoon/early evening showers and storms can be expected on a daily basis, these will be unorganized and random in coverage, with lightning and brief strong wind gusts the main impacts. Fog potential over the next few days: Patchy early morning mist/fog will be possible each morning through early next week (primarily in locations that receive wetting rainfall). Potential for Red Flag Conditions: None at this time.
