Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
242 AM CDT Sun Apr 14 2024

...ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS EXPECTED ACROSS SOUTHEAST NEW
MEXICO AND THE GUADALUPE MOUNTAINS FOR THIS AFTERNOON AND EARLY
EVENING...

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON CDT /11 AM MDT/ TO 10 PM
CDT /9 PM MDT/ MONDAY FOR RELATIVE HUMIDITY OF 10% OR LESS, 20-FT WINDS
OF 20 MPH OR MORE, AND VERY HIGH FIRE DANGER FOR SOUTHEAST NEW
MEXICO AND MUCH OF WEST TEXAS...

.DISCUSSION...

A Fire Danger Statement has been issued for Southeast New Mexico and
the Guadalupe Mountains for this afternoon and early evening as
fuels remain dry and humidity as low as 4 percent meets with
elevated 20ft winds. Overnight recovery will be poor out west and
good out east. Critical to extreme fire weather conditions expected
Monday as winds gust 25-60 mph across the west and humidity falls to
around 4 percent. Fuels will be critically dry at this point with
ERCs in the 75th+ percentile. Severe storms may initiate off the
dryline across the east on Monday as well, resulting in gusty and
erratic winds for any fires in the vicinity. A Red Flag Warning has
been issued for Monday for much of the region. Near-critical fire
weather continues through Thursday with elevated 20ft winds and low
humidity before cooler temperatures and better moisture return this
weekend.
