722 FNUS54 KMAF 171838 FWFMAF Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX 138 PM CDT Fri May 17 2024 .DISCUSSION... Fire weather conditions increase this weekend into early next week as a dryline sharpens and an early season heatwave dries out fuels across western regions from Southeast New Mexico into Culberson County and the Big Bend. However, lack of strong winds is likely to constrain fire risk to RFD category at most, despite min RH well below critical 15% level, poor overnight recovery, temperatures 10 to 15 degrees warmer than average in the 90s and above for highs, and critically dry fuels southwest of the Pecos River. While temperatures cool off temporarily during the middle portion of next week, no rain is expected and fire risk will still be present southwest of the Pecos River. && For point-specific forecasts please see the Point Fire Weather Matrix product issued by the Midland/Odessa National Weather Service Office.
