Issued by NWS Los Angeles, CA
181 FNUS56 KLOX 152215 FWFLOX Fire Weather Planning Forecast For Southwestern California National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA 315 PM PDT Tue Jul 15 2025 ...ELEVATED TO BRIEF CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ACROSS THE INTERIOR VALLEYS, MOUNTAINS, AND DESERTS THROUGH WEDNESDAY... ...SMALL THUNDERSTORM RISK THURSDAY THROUGH SUNDAY, FOCUSED OVER THE SAN GABRIEL MOUNTAINS AND ANTELOPE VALLEY... .DISCUSSION... The combination of strong onshore winds, warm temperatures, and low humidities will result in elevated to brief critical fire weather conditions across the interior valleys, mountains, and deserts through into Wednesday evening. There is an increased risk of large grass fires with rapid fire spread, especially for the Antelope Valley and Highway 14 Corridor. Weak troughing will bring temperatures to near or below normal, with the warmest areas (interior valleys, lower mountains, and deserts) between 85 and 100 degrees through Friday. Minimum humidity values will largely range between 10 and 20 percent for interior mountains, valleys, and and desserts through at least Wednesday. The current marine layer depth is around 2000 feet, with slight deepening expected tonight. This will maintain benign weather conditions for the coasts and coastal valleys. Onshore sustained winds of 15 to 30 mph with gusts of 30 to 45 mph are expected to continue through Wednesday, across the interior valleys, mountains, and deserts. The strongest winds will occur in the afternoon and evening, across the Antelope Valley and adjacent foothills extending through the Highway 14 corridor and I-5 corridor, as well as the interior valleys of San Luis Obispo County. There is a 10-15 percent chance of monsoonal showers and thunderstorms during the afternoons and evenings Thursday through Sunday, focused over the San Gabriel Mountains and Antelope Valley. Dry lighting strikes and gusty erratic winds are possible if a storm were to develop.
