Two showers each produced a landspout tornado in central Berks County on May 4th. .Blue Marsh National Recreation Area Landspout Tornado... Rating: EF-U Estimated Peak Wind: Unknown Path Length /statute/: Unknown Path Width /maximum/: Unknown Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: May 4, 2025 Start Time: 2:11 PM EDT Start Location: Blue Marsh National Recreation Area, Berks County, PA Start Lat/Lon: Unknown End Date: May 4, 2025 End Time: 2:12 PM EDT End Location: Blue Marsh National Recreation Area, Berks County, PA End Lat/Lon: Unknown Video via social media confirms a brief landspout and/or waterspout occurred near the northern end of Blue Marsh Lake in the Blue Marsh National Recreation area near the community of Mount Pleasant. An initial storm survey did not find any evidence of damage in this area. It is plausible that the tornadic circulation occurred entirely over water, or in an inaccessible area of land. Climavision radar data confirmed the lack of any mesocyclone with the shower that produced this tornadic circulation, hence the landspout classification. We would like to thank Mr. Lou Ruh and Mr. Justin Selig for their contributions to the storm damage assessment. .Mohrsville/Shoemakersville Landspout Tornado... Rating: EF-0 Estimated Peak Wind: 65 mph Path Length /statute/: 1.7 miles Path Width /maximum/: 35 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: May 4, 2025 Start Time: 5:57 PM EDT Start Location: 1 mile NW Mohrsville, Berks County, PA Start Lat/Lon: 40.4815 / -75.9887 End Date: May 4, 2025 End Time: 5:59 PM EDT End Location: 1 mile SE Shoemakersville, Berks County, PA End Lat/Lon: 40.4920 / -75.9616 Storm damage survey, videos, and photos confirm a landspout tornado occurred in a rural area between Mohrsville and Shoemakersville. The tornadic circulation began in an open field near Main Street and Shoey Road, where a line of swirl marks from ground scouring was noted for about a half mile. The circulation weakened some and became discontinuous as it progressed east toward Pottsville Pike (Route 61), crossing the Schuylkill River. A photo from social media showed the tornadic circulation crossing the highway near a railroad crossing south of Shoemakersville Road, where some minor tree damage occurred. The circulation then continued northeast, crossing Shoemakersville Road causing minor tree damage where it ended. Climavision radar data confirmed the lack of any mesocyclone with the shower that produced this tornadic circulation, hence the landspout classification. We would like to thank Mr. Lou Ruh and Mr. Justin Selig for their contributions to the storm damage assessment. && EF Scale: The Enhanced Fujita Scale classifies tornadoes into the following categories: EF0.....65 to 85 mph EF1.....86 to 110 mph EF2.....111 to 135 mph EF3.....136 to 165 mph EF4.....166 to 200 mph EF5.....>200 mph NOTE: The information in this statement is preliminary and subject to change pending final review of the events and publication in NWS Storm Data. $$ Staarmann
