...New AVIATION...

.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Tuesday afternoon)
Issued at 248 AM CDT Mon Jun 3 2024

Severe weather is behind us for the time being and now we have heat
to worry about for the next few days. Westerly flow aloft will
advect in hot air sending highs above 100 degrees for most locations
not in the mountains. Temperatures will be particularly hot in the
Big Bend where we have a Heat Advisory in effect for this afternoon.

Tomorrow will be even hotter as many locations reach or exceed 105
degrees. A Heat Advisory will likely be issued and expanded to
include much of the CWA. Heat stress and dehydration will be a big
concern and we will message this accordingly. Thankfully dry air
will allow temps tonight to drop into the 60s giving us some relief.

.LONG TERM...
(Tuesday night through Sunday)
Issued at 248 AM CDT Mon Jun 3 2024

The excessive heat should abate slightly as the ridge begins to move
northwest of the area, allowing for cooler and moist southeasterly
surface flow. While temperatures won`t be as bad, they do remain hot
across the area with widespread upper 90s and low 100s for all each
afternoon. On the bright side, some locations can expect rainfall to
return towards the end of this week. An upper-low is forecast to sit
over Baja with the main ridge axis to our west. This should allow
for weak disturbances to influence our area as they round this
ridge. We maintain moist low-level flow being to the east of the
surface high pressure further aiding rainfall prospects. The
abnormally dry western higher elevations appear to finally get their
much needed rains with afternoon thunderstorms expected each
afternoon Thursday onward. Fortunately, no severe weather is
expected as wind shear will be non-existent with this activity but
unfortunately this means areas further east can expect to be left
out this go round. This pattern appears to hold fairly steady into
next weekend with temperatures perhaps becoming a touch cooler and
rainfall chances spreading a touch further east.
