.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure moves into the Canadian Maritimes today. High
pressure crosses the region Saturday. Low pressure tracks well
south of the region later Sunday. High pressure builds toward
the region Monday.
&&
.NEAR TERM /THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Key Messages:
*Slippery morning commute
*Light additional snowfall in the north today
*Gusty winds causing blowing snow and reduced visibility
tonight into tomorrow
Today, low pressure moves northeast towards the Gulf of St.
Lawrence. Upper-level low continues to move through Maine today
through Friday, resulting in some light snow showers in the
north. High pressure system to the west helps to form a
tightening pressure gradient between the two pressure systems,
causing some gusty winds today into tomorrow. Maximum
temperatures today in the upper-20s in the north and mid-to-
upper 30s Downeast. Freshly fallen snow could drift or blow
around during the afternoon into evening, specifically on roads
near open agricultural fields. Blowing snow results in slick
roads and reduced visibility, so exercise caution if traveling
in these conditions. Overnight lows tonight in the low-teens,
with wind chills falling a few degrees below zero in northern
and eastern Maine.
Low continues to depart to the northeast on Friday, as weak
shortwave follows in the wake of the system, keeping light snow
showers in the Crown of Maine. Daytime highs on Friday in the
low-to-mid 20s. Gusty winds persist, with winds reaching up to
30-35mph gusts during the day. Continue to exercise caution for
blowing snow on open roads. High pressure begins to build in
from the west.
&&
.SHORT TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Low pressure will exit from near Labrador, while high pressure
builds toward the region, Friday night. Expect mostly/partly
cloudy skies north, mostly clear Downeast, Friday night. Gusty
west winds will also persist Friday night, which could support
areas of blowing snow across northern areas early. High
pressure will cross the region Saturday with partly sunny skies.
High pressure begins to exit across the Maritimes Saturday
night, while an upper low approaches from the west. Clouds will
increase Saturday night with also a slight chance of snow
showers late. The upper low should begin to cross the region
Sunday helping support a developing ocean low well south of the
Gulf of Maine. Mostly cloudy skies along with a chance of snow
showers will occur across the region Sunday with the upper low.
Temperatures will be at below normal levels Saturday/Sunday.
&&
.LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
The ocean low will intensify while tracking east of Nova Scotia
Sunday night, with high pressure to the west. Aloft, the
supporting upper low crosses the region. Will have mostly cloudy
skies along with a chance of snow showers Sunday night. Current
indications are that the majority of the precipitation with the
ocean low should miss the region. However, the northwest edge
of the precipitation shield could clip Downeast areas. High
pressure will cross the region Monday with generally partly
sunny skies. A weak system could then begin to approach from the
west Monday night with partly/mostly cloudy skies along with a
slight chance of snow showers late. The system should cross the
region early Tuesday with a slight chance of early snow showers.
Otherwise, generally expect partly cloudy skies. A cold front
could then begin to approach the region later Wednesday with
partly/mostly cloudy skies along with a slight chance of snow
showers north, partly cloudy Downeast. Expect below normal level
temperatures Monday/Tuesday, with near normal level
temperatures Wednesday.
