Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Boise ID
224 PM MDT Sun Jun 9 2024

.SHORT TERM...Tonight through Tuesday night...Scattered showers
and thunderstorms will continue through the early evening hours
in the warm, moist and unstable air ahead of an upper level
shortwave and surface cold front. There is a marginal risk that
some of these thunderstorms will produce severe wind gusts and
hail. Some of these thunderstorms will also produce brief heavy
rain, but will be moving northeast at about 30 mph, which will
limit total accumulations along their path. The thunderstorm
activity is expected to diminish in Oregon after sunset and move
completely east of our Idaho zones after midnight as drier air
moves in behind the cold front. Monday will be dry with mostly
clear skies across the area and temperatures will be several
degrees cooler than today...though still above normal for this
time of year. Hot weather returns on Tuesday under clear skies
with temperatures climbing back into the upper 80s and low 90s
in most valley locations and into the 70s and 80s in Mountain
communities.

.LONG TERM...Wednesday through Sunday...A dry west to east zonal
flow pattern on Wednesday will become more southwesterly on
Thursday and Friday. This will keep temperatures about 10 to 12
degrees above normal through Friday under mostly clear skies.
Models are consistent in depicting an upper level trough moving
into the PacNW Friday night through Sunday which will allow
temperatures to cool back down to near normal during the
upcoming weekend. There still does not appear to be much of a
moisture tap with the incoming upper level trough and dry
weather is likely to continue into Saturday with only a slight
chance of precipitation creeping back into the forecast by
Sunday.
