.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 1030 PM EDT Sun May 26 2024

Currently - Deep layered ridging remains dominant in the Keys. An
Atlantic surface ridge stretches westward across the Keys
resulting in light mostly southeasterly breezes. There is some
initial variability due to the lingering effects of mainland day
time heating. Aloft, ridging continues to reach northeastward
through the Gulf of Mexico into Florida. This is contributing
quite a dry column. This evenings sounding indicated a
precipitable water of only 1.09 inches with considerable dry air
through the lower levels along with some inhibition. This
stability is likely being exacerbated by Cuban effects due to a
southerly component in the steering flow. Very little in the way
of convective activity or low level clouds have been detected in
radar and satellite imagery. There has been ample anomalous
propagation over Cuba and the Straits. Warm conditions remain in
place with temperatures in the lower to mid 80s and dew points in
the lower 70s.

Short Term Update - Atlantic ridging will remain across South
Florida and the Keys through the overnight period while ridging
remains in place aloft. This will maintain light broadly
southeasterly breezes and stable conditions. Forecast soundings
suggest deep layered moisture will increase slightly, but given
the persistent stable layers, lack of instability, and lower level
lift, it is safe to keep rain chances out of tonight`s forecast.
Expect overnight lows to range broadly near 80 with dew points
likely climbing a point or two.
