.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 250 AM CDT Fri Jun 14 2024

Overnight storms have gradually cleared the area with surface high
pressure moving in during the day. A quiet day is in store with
clearing skies and highs in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees. During
the evening hours a shortwave trough pushes east off the Rockies
leading to shower and thunderstorm development across central
Kansas. Some of these storms could be strong, but will be on a
weakening trend as they push to the east into our forecast area. Any
storms that do move in overnight will exit by Saturday morning.

The daytime hours should stay mostly dry on Saturday with
temperatures rising into the low 90s for another day. Heat index
values will be highest in our southwest forecast area were some may
see values a few degrees over 100. Additional shower and
thunderstorm chances will return Saturday evening but for the
most part, better forcing remains out of the area so widespread
rainfall is not a concern at this time. Temperatures on Sunday
will once again reach the low 90s with heat indices near 100
across the area.

Heat continues to be a concern heading into the work week with
Monday potentially being the hottest day. Highs are currently
expected to be in the mid and even upper 90s. The good news right
now is that dew points look to remain in the 60s, keeping the heat
index values from soring. Still expecting heat indices above 100.
Mid 90s continue into Tuesday. In addition to these high day time
temperatures, overnight lows are only expected to fall into the mid
to upper 70s through this time period bringing little relief overnight
(especially for the KC Metro). While confidence remains low on the
issuance of any heat products at this time, its something that will
have to be monitored in the coming days. Slightly cooler
temperatures arrive for the mid week along with additional rain
chances, but this will be short lived with temperatures quickly
returning to the mid 90s to finish out the week.
