Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tiyan GU
516 PM ChST Tue Jun 18 2024

.Marianas Synopsis...
Partly cloudy skies with isolated showers and gentle to moderate
trade winds prevail across the Marianas this afternoon. Ritidian buoy
shows seas between 5 and 6 feet, while altimetry shows seas between 4
and 6 feet.

&&

.Discussion...
Little expected across the Marianas for the coming days. A dry
trade-wind pattern is in place and looks to continue through at
least the middle of next week.

&&

.Marine...
Gentle to moderate trade winds are expected to continue through the
weekend. Combined seas of 4 to 6 feet will slowly subside over the
next few days, dropping to between 2 and 4 feet Saturday. Seas are
then expected to begin to build as a larger trade-wind swell moves
into the region, reaching 4 to 6 feet Sunday night. The trade-wind
swell will maintain surf high enough to result in a moderate risk of
rip currents along east facing reefs. All other reefs are expected to
have a low risk of rip currents.

&&

.Eastern Micronesia and Chuuk...
A fragmented Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) will continue to
weaken the next few days and shift west, but not without bringing
intense showers and thunderstorms to Pohnpei through Wednesday.
Seasonal patchy, showery trades are expected at Chuuk, Pohnpei and
Kosrae for much of the forecast period, while Majuro will observe
much more pleasant weather until the weekend.

Combined seas of 3 to 5 feet are expected at all locations for much
of the forecast period except for Majuro, where seas may increase an
additional 2 to 3 feet during the weekend.

&&

.Western Micronesia for Palau and Yap...
A tropical disturbance centered near Palau is expected to bring
intense showers and thunderstorms for the next few days to Palau,
and through tonight at Yap, with gustiness possible near heavier
showers. As the disturbance becomes an open wave and exits the region
to the northwest, showers will taper down thereafter, but patchy
seasonal showers are expected into next week.

Combined seas of 3 to 5 feet may taper down a foot over the next few
days, remaining as such into early next week.
