Issued at 1151 AM MDT Sun Jun 16 2024 VFR through the TAF period. Winds have settled on a north/northeast direction and should gradually turn more easterly as a Denver Cyclone develops. Eventually this cyclone should lift to the east of the terminals, with a turn to more of a westerly component later this evening. Drainage flow will be slow to develop tonight. Another boundary is expected to setup somewhere near or north of the terminals by late tomorrow morning. Difficult to say where this will be, especially after today`s boundary was significantly stronger than originally forecast. Cloud cover will increase Monday morning the period as a cold front approaches the region. Ahead of this cold front, southwest winds will also begin to increase. The cold front will begin to move into the west by around 18Z Monday, with rain showers and MVFR conditions expected to occur at KJAC around 18Z. KJAC may see IFR conditions (30% chance) by later in the afternoon. KCOD may also see rain showers late in the period, but hi-res models are still seeing inconsistencies in timing of the heavier precipitation with the cold front. Issued at 1140 AM MDT Sun Jun 16 2024 Man concern with this TAF issuance is the convection potential this evening and overnight. Latest satellite loop was showing mainly clear skies over the majority of the TAF sites. Latest obs/radar data was showing the frontal boundary that passed through earlier this morning was now near the Palmer Divide in eastern Colorado. This front packed quite a punch today with cooler air filtering into areas east of the I-25 corridor. The short range models are showing an abrupt wind shift to the east this afternoon, but based on the latest trends we did delays this shift a couple of hours from the previous forecast. Later this afternoon and early evening, we should begin to see a decent surge of moisture back into KCYS/KSNY by 02z or so with this moisture surge continuing into the remainder of the Panhandle TAF sites by 06z. Depending on the strength of this surge and any forcing that occurs we may see a rogue thunderstorm or two. However, confidence in this occurring remains rather low.
