...New 06Z Aviation Discussion...

.SHORT TERM...
(This afternoon through Sunday)
Issued at 222 PM EDT Sat Jun 29 2024

Pretty cut and dry (or I guess wet) this afternoon. Basically the
same story as yesterday, scattered showers and thunderstorms with
locally heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and frequent lightning. Not
expecting much in the way of widespread accumulations and some areas
could receive no rain at all. PoPs drop off overnight, however a few
remnant sprinkles remain possible through tomorrow morning. Rinse and
repeat tomorrow with chaotic isolated showers and thunderstorms late
morning into the afternoon.

The real story will be the heat. With humidity returned to the area
combined with a narrow ridge, heat indices will be steamy tomorrow
afternoon. A heat advisory has been issued for a large portion of
Central and East-Central GA due to potential heat indices of 105 to
107. We will continue to watch our heat risk through early next
week.

.LONG TERM...
(Monday morning through next Friday)
Issued at 222 PM EDT Sat Jun 29 2024

At a glance:

-A trough on Monday will stall a front across central GA. This will
bring a break from the heat for northern GA.

-Afternoon thunderstorms are possible through the long term.

The long term picks up as high pressure begins to break down across
the SE. An upper level low situated over the northern Great Lakes
will drag a trough through what has been a pretty stagnant
atmosphere for the past week. This front is expected to stall out
across the southern portion of the CWA where it will act as a focus
for afternoon showers and thunderstorms on Monday and Tuesday before
High pressure starts to build in once again. Behind this front,
temps will ease into the mid to upper 80s on Monday and Tuesday for
much of northern and some of central GA.

Unfortunately, that will be pretty short lived. As another Bermuda
high sets up, temps will start to climb back into the 90s by
Wednesday. A surge in moisture once we set up on the west side of
the ridge will cause our heat indices to spike into the triple
digits toward the end of next week.

The tropics are starting to act up and an increase in tropical
moisture across our area is possible as Tropical Storm Beryl enters
the gulf. Most model guidance seems to indicate that Beryl will not
threaten the gulf coast.

.AVIATION...
(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 142 AM EDT Sun Jun 30 2024

Areas of low cigs have developed from near MCN to CSG. Models expand
these cigs northward mostly W of the Atlanta metro area prior to
daybreak. However, a scattered deck between 500 and 800 feet may
affect the metro area early this morning. Morning multi- layered
clouds will likely delay convection today, but scattered showers and
thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon. The best
chances of thunderstorms are expected S of a pre-frontal boundary
from CSG to MCN. Additionally, more storms are possible along a weak
cold front sagging into N GA late in the afternoon.

//ATL Confidence...06Z Update...
Medium on morning cigs and precipitation timing, high on other
elements.
