Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tiyan GU
602 AM ChST Fri May 31 2024

.Marianas Synopsis...
Gentle to moderate trades prevail in the region. Satellite imagery
indicates showers developing within the trade trough exiting to the
west of Guam. Altimetry passes indicate seas are about 4 to 5 feet.

&&

.Discussion...
The passage of a minor trade trough was expected to bring scattered
showers to Guam today; after a brief line of showers moved across the
island overnight, the bulk of the showers are now expected to be at
the westernmost extent of the coastal waters as this feature
continues to exit the region. Other than that, the weather forecast
remains unchanged.

&&

.Marine...
The marine forecast remains unchanged. Combined seas of 3 to 5 feet
will subside slightly to between 2 and 4 feet over the weekend, as
the background trade swell remains the dominant feature for the rest
of the week.

&&

.Eastern Micronesia including Chuuk...
Satellite imagery shows a line of showers and storms extending from
Kwajalein westward to Weno. Multiple subtle trade-wind troughs are
moving across eastern Micronesia and Chuuk, leading to disturbed
weather. A temporary reprieve from active weather will be possible
this weekend before convection becomes more widespread early next
week.

Combined seas of 4 to 6 feet should prevail across the region,
except seas of 5 to 7 feet could build across the northern RMI this
weekend. Kalo Buoy shows combined seas mainly 2 to 4 feet with
occasional bigger waves on the east side of Majuro.

&&

.Western Micronesia for Yap and Palau...
Slight adjustments were made to the forecast based on satellite
trends. QPF and PoPs were bumped up for Palau today for ongoing
convection across the region. Additionally, with light winds expected
tomorrow, there will be the potential for island convection during
the afternoon. QPF and PoPs were bumped up some as a result. A
quieter pattern looks possible next week for Yap and Palau.

Gentle to moderate trades and benign sea conditions are expected to
continue across the region through the weekend. Palau/Ngaraard Buoy
shows combined seas mainly 3 to 5 feet from the east.
