000 FXUS64 KLCH 191706 AFDLCH Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Lake Charles LA 1206 PM CDT Thu Sep 19 2024 ...New AVIATION... .SHORT TERM... (Today through Saturday night) Issued at 328 AM CDT Thu Sep 19 2024 Patchy ground fog has developed once again this morning primarily across central LA and interior SETX. May see some additional development closer to the coast through the early morning, but don`t expect significant visibility restrictions. Fog should dissipate no later than 14Z. Little change to the overall forecast philosophy through the weekend as upper level ridging presently centered over southern Texas will continue to dominate the weather pattern over the western Gulf of Mexico. While a couple of isolated showers or thunderstorms can`t be completely ruled out across the Atchafalaya basin, consensus probs are below 20%. Temperatures will again climb into the lower 90s with forecast heat indices at or just above 100. Weak surface high pressure over the Southeastern U.S. will keep the surface gradient very relaxed with light, variable winds generally under 5 MPH. Near carbon copy conditions will prevail through Saturday. Jones && .LONG TERM... (Sunday through Thursday) Issued at 328 AM CDT Thu Sep 19 2024 Late in the weekend a ridge will be situated across southern Texas and Louisiana while a short wave pushes into the central plains. Summertime temperatures can be expected while chances of rain remain near zero. Early to mid week, the ridge will drift east across the northern gulf coast as the aforementioned short wave moves into central sections of the country. As the ridge departs the local area, a very modest increase in rain chances may occur. Temperatures will remain near to slightly above climo norms. 05 && .AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 1201 PM CDT Thu Sep 19 2024 High pressure centered overtop the Texas/Louisiana state line is in control of the forecast for the period, with only fair-weather cumulus with MVFR ceilings and light, variable winds ongoing. A few gusts may develop this afternoon with daytime mixing, but due to high pressure, gusts will be variable/turbulent in nature. After sundown, the same trend as in previous days can be expected: improving skies after 01Z and patchy fog (4 to 5 SM) at most or all terminals from 09 to 14Z. After 14Z, any lingering fog will dissipate and mild, variable conditions expected once again. 11/Calhoun && .MARINE... Issued at 328 AM CDT Thu Sep 19 2024 High pressure will continue building into the region today. This ridge will bring about a prolonged period of warm, dry conditions with light winds and low seas. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
