Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Boise ID
331 AM MDT Sat Aug 30 2025

.SHORT TERM...Today through Monday night...An upper ridge will
amplify over the region today, then gradually shift eastward
through Monday. While the ridge will bring dry and more stable
conditions to the area there will be areas that remain on the
fringe of afternoon shower and thunderstorm development. For
today, that includes the higher peaks in Baker County and the
w-central Idaho mtns where a slight chance of showers and
thunderstorms exists. For Sunday and Monday conditions remain
stable enough to cap deeper development, though cumulus can be
expected over the mtns. Will also need to keep an eye on SE
Oregon where conditions could tip just enough to support an
afternoon shower or thunderstorm. Temperatures will continue to
rise through the weekend with highs around 10 degrees above
normal (low-mid 90s in the valleys). Thicker smoke from
wildfires in Oregon will continue to filter into the region,
albeit taking a more circuitous clockwise route through WA-ID
panhandle-MT-back to southern ID as it circles the ridge.

.LONG TERM...Tuesday through Saturday...Fair skies and stable
conditions are expected to prevail across the region thru most
of the period as a lingering high pressure ridge dominates the
regional pattern. However by the Friday, significant changes (in
the pattern) will occur as the ridging weakens (and axis shifts
eastward) and a developed North Pacific low moves on shore into
the N California/ S Oregon area. This change will allow for an
influx of moist, unstable conditions to begin supporting chances
(15-20%) for showers and increased cloudiness - initially in SE
Oregon - as the the low continues its trajectory towards the
(our) forecast area. High temperatures are expected to reach the
low to mid 90`s while overnight lows drop to around the low to
mid 60`s (at most locations).
