.DISCUSSION...Drier weather will move into the area today with
sunshine making a return. Temperatures will be well below normal,
with a very cold start to the day and only modest warming
despite mostly sunny skies developing this afternoon. Smoke
dispersal is still expected to reach the fair to good categories
for most of the afternoon hours with sufficient transport winds.
It appears this burn`s aspect should stay above sharper
inversions and would be more prone to west winds in this flow
pattern. Therefore, we are forecasting west winds increasing to
6-12 mph with a few gusts up to 18-20 mph this afternoon during
peak heating. Stronger inversions and lighter winds will prevail
tonight.
Tuesday is expected to be a little more stable due to increasing
clouds, but some light snow or flurries will move into the area
during the afternoon. Westerly breezes should continue, aiding
smoke dispersal but that is only expected to reach the fair
category due to clouds.
Wednesday will feature more widespread snow through at least the
morning, with decreasing snow chances later in the afternoon. The
persistent nature of snow Wednesday should favor sufficient smoke
dispersion. Outside of the snow, smoke dispersal would remain
poor.
