.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 104 AM CDT Mon Aug 17 2026

An upper level high will remain south of the area through Wednesday
with a series of shortwaves moving above this feature and through
the Central Plains. Expect skies to become mostly clear this morning
with some mid level clouds in the afternoon. Clear skies return
tonight and continue into Tuesday. Winds will generally be light and
from a southerly direction through tomorrow. Th first shortwave will
move north of the area Tuesday night leaving most of the area dry.
The exception to this will be northern Kansas where POPs are in the
20s. A better chance of precipitation comes Wednesday night with the
NBM depicting POPs as high as 50 percent. A cold front will also
move through the area Wednesady night bringing in cooler
temperatures through Thursday. The upper level high shifts west of
the area Thursday through the first part of next week suppressing any
activity from forming across western Kansas. As for temperatures,
lows this morning will dip into the 60s with highs this afternoon in
the upper 80s to low 90s. Expect another night of lows in the 60s
tonight then soar into the upper 90s to around 100 degrees Tuesday.
Highs Wednesday look to range from the mid 80s north to upper mid to
upper 90s along the KS/OK border. It depends on how fast the cold
front moves through to see where the cooler temperatures are found.
Highs then dip into the upper 90s to low 90s Thursday then rebound
into the upper 90s to around 100 degrees by Saturday. Lows during
this time frame will generally be in the 60s with low 70s across
portions of south central Kansas.
