Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Flagstaff AZ
431 AM MST Sat Jun 14 2025

.SYNOPSIS...A strong area of high pressure will remain over the
region for the next few days, bringing seasonably warm
temperatures and dry conditions. A weak short-wave looks to slide
through early next week, mainly increasing winds and slightly
dropping afternoon highs.

&&

.DISCUSSION...High pressure continues to build into the area with
heights peaking on Sunday. Main consequence of this feature will
be the warmest temperatures seen so far this year with highs
peaking 5 to 10 degrees above mid June averages, with no records
expected to be reached. An Excessive Heat Warning is now in effect
starting today and lasting into Monday evening for areas below
4000 feet in the Grand Canyon, so for any hikers thinking about
venturing below the Rims, plan accordingly or consider postponing
your hike for another time.

Monday and Tuesday a weak shortwave brushes by to the north and
flattens the ridge for a couple days. No precipitation expected
and temperatures back off a few degrees but do expect winds to
pick up out of the southwest between 15 and 25 mph with gusts 30
to 35 mph. Minimum Relative Humidity values will be at 5-10% each
day so we will be approaching critical or near critical fire
weather conditions, especially in the Little Colorado River
Valley. Will keep monitoring the situation to determine whether or
not fire weather headlines will be needed.

High pressure will begin to rebound into the area starting on
Wednesday. This will keep things dry with maximum temperatures
reaching 5 to 10 degrees above average again through the end of
the week.

&&

.AVIATION...Saturday 14/12Z through Sunday 15/12Z...VFR
conditions, no precipitation expected. Winds SW 10-15kts, gusts
to 20kts during the day, light and variable or terrain driven
overnight.

OUTLOOK...Sunday 15/12Z through Tuesday 17/12Z...VFR conditions,
no precipitation expected. Winds SW 10-15kts, gusts to 25kts on
Sunday, SW 10-20kts, gusts to 30kts on Monday.

&&

.FIRE WEATHER...Today and Sunday...Hot and dry with temperatures 5-
10 degrees above average. Minimum relative humidity 5-10%. Winds SW
10-20 mph with gusts 20-25 mph both days.

Monday through Wednesday...Hot and dry with temperatures 5-10
degrees above average. Minimum relative humidity 5-10% each day. SW-
W winds 15-25 mph with gusts 25-35 mph on Monday and Tuesday,
becoming 5-15 mph on Wednesday. Near-critical to critical fire
weather concerns on Monday and Tuesday, mainly along the Little
Colorado River Valley.
