WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW: The coldest temperatures of the season so far will be over the area through Monday morning under Arctic high pressure. The current forecast has widespread lows in the 10s below and apparent temperatures in the 20s below tonight for most areas north of the Missouri River. There will be a brief recovery Sunday afternoon with highs around zero, but similar wind chills again Sunday night. Especially being the first event of the season with recent mild weather, went with a Cold Weather Advisory through Monday morning to cover this risk. Additionally, there is a slight chance for low clouds or fog to develop late tonight that would limit the drop off in temperatures, but introduce an additional hazard. The next chance for measurable precipitation is Tuesday as a low drops south and east through Idaho into Wyoming. Another upper level trough crossing the Northern Rockies by Friday has the potential to drop some widespread mixed precipitation, though too early to get much model agreement on type and amount. Regardless, temperatures will recover enough to alleviate cold concerns and even rise above freezing for at least the southwest zones later in the week. FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS: Blended in high resolution guidance and NBM 90th percentile for winds through Monday. Blended with the NBM 25th percentile for temperatures through Monday in coordination with TFX to account for ongoing deterministic warm bias that was populating with around the 75th-90th percentile. Confidence is moderate to high on the general temperature pattern for the next week, while low for fog development tonight and type of upcoming precipitation. -JEZ && .AVIATION... FLIGHT CATEGORY: Mainly MVFR/VFR Extreme cold will be the main impact to TAF sites through the cycle with temperatures below zero most of the time through Monday morning. Winds will generally be light and variable. There is moderate confidence for areas of MVFR ceilings to linger tonight into Sunday morning, but overall clouds will be more few to scattered aside from the slight chance that fog develops late tonight. && .GGW WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
