794 FXZS60 NSTU 020116 AFDPPG Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Pago Pago AS 216 PM SST Thu Oct 1 2026 .Short term... [TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT]... A strong high pressure system to the south will dominate the area through the new week. Expect windy conditions to remain through Friday, even though winds have fallen slightly below advisory threshold (25 mph). Model guidance suggests the high pressure system will vary in strength through the new week, which will impact wind speeds. For instance, winds are expected to build again to advisory levels overnight into Friday morning before diminishing to 10 to 15 mph on Saturday. Hence, the Wind advisory remains in effect. East to southeast winds are expected to persist throughout this time, along with isolated to scattered showers. .Long term... [SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY]... By Sunday, the aforementioned high pressure will strengthen once again, maintaining breezy trades through the rest of the week. Showers embedded within the trade wind flow are possible. && .Marine... Latest wave heights observed at the Aunu`u PacIOOS buoy remain around 9 to 11 feet, with low peak periods around 9 seconds that suggest wind-driven waves. Model guidance maintains these wave heights through Friday, before subsiding thereafter. A Small Craft and High Surf Advisory remains in effect. However, a large south swell expected tonight could hold the High Surf Advisory through Saturday.
