.DISCUSSION...

Breezy to localized windy conditions will prevail once again this
afternoon ahead of an incoming cold front set to push through
Saturday morning. Wind gusts this afternoon will be widespread in
the in the 30-35 mph range with windprone areas reaching 40+ mph.
Sierra ridgetop gusts could also exceed 80 mph.

While humidity will be trending 5-10% higher today, areas across
southern Mono and Mineral counties could still face localized
areas of enhanced fire weather conditions particularly through the
Chalfant Valley. Winds could also result in hazardous boating
conditions across area lakes, cross wind impacts for high profile
vehicles, aviation turbulence, and areas of blowing dust downwind
of dry lake beds/playa areas.

A cold front will approach NE California this evening and pass
through W.Nevada by early tomorrow morning. This will yield light
rainfall chances this evening from the northern Sierra to NE
California with generally light amounts (<0.05"). Snow levels will
drop to around 6,000-6,500` behind the front with only a 10-20%
chance of up to an inch of snowfall in the mountains. A low (10-15%
chance) of stray thunderstorm is possible Saturday.

Precipitation chances diminish Saturday evening which will be
followed by clearing skies and colder temperatures. Lows are
expected to be well below freezing across the Sierra and NE
California. Meanwhile, rural valleys across western Nevada will also
approach freezing. The Reno-Sparks area has only a 5% chance of
seeing freezing temperatures, while Carson City, Lovelock, Fallon
and Yerington have a 30-45%, and Susanville, Portola and Minden have
a 70%+ chance of freezing on Sunday morning.

Considerable uncertainty remains in regards to rain and snow chances
early next week stemming from a closed low dropping south from the
Pacific Northwest. Ensemble guidance shows considerable variance on
the track and timing of the trajectory of the low with the best odds
for rain and mountain snow favoring areas generally south of US-50
early next week. This also means that snow impacts to travel is on
the table for Sierra passes in Alpine and Mono County. Any type of
expected precipitation amounts and timing remains a low confidence
affair at this point but be sure to keep tabs on the forecast if you
have travel plans during this timeframe. Fuentes

.AVIATION...

VFR conditions will prevail this afternoon; however, expect
increasing winds this afternoon across all terminals. Afternoon
gusts of 25-30kts are expected for most terminals this afternoon
along with areas of LLWS and turbulence and continuing over Sierra
terminals through Saturday morning along an incoming cold front.
This cold front on early Saturday morning brings 10-30% chance for
light and isolated showers for Tahoe and W.Nevada terminals.
