.SHORT TERM...
(Today and tonight)
Issued at 125 AM CDT Wed Aug 19 2026

The short term forecast remains on track, with very similar
temperatures expected today compared to yesterday. The heat
advisory remains in effect for the Big Country this afternoon
where highs will approach 106 degrees especially across Haskell
and Throckmorton counties. Elsewhere, expect highs in the upper
90s to near 103 degrees. Skies will be mostly sunny, with south-
southwest winds becoming breezy at times this afternoon.

.LONG TERM...
(Thursday through Tuesday)
Issued at 125 AM CDT Wed Aug 19 2026

Above normal temperatures will continue through the extended
forecast. An upper level ridge is forecast to remain centered near
the Four Corner region Thursday and Friday, with West Central Texas
on the eastern periphery of the ridge. A weak cold front is forecast
to drop south to near the Red River late Thursday. In addition,
upper level disturbances will likely move from north to south along
the eastern periphery of the ridge. The GFS, RRFS and to a lesser
extent the NAM are developing isolated to scattered showers and
thunderstorms across the area on Friday afternoon, with less
coverage Thursday afternoon. For now have kept PoPs below 15
percent, but higher rain chances might need to be introduced as
additional high resolution data comes in over the next day or so. If
any thunderstorms develop they will have the potential of producing
strong gusty winds given the high dewpoint depressions. Highs
Thursday and Friday will be in the upper 90s to near 104.

This weekend into early next week, the aforementioned upper level
ridge will begin to shift east toward Texas. This will result in dry
conditions along with a continuation of the hot temperatures. Highs
will be slightly hotter, in the upper 90s to near 106. Overnight
lows will be in the mid 70s to near 80.
