Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Las Vegas NV

.KEY MESSAGES...

* A slight warming and drying trend will bring seasonal
temperatures to the region with sunny skies and breezy
northerly winds over the Colorado River Valley.

* There is rising confidence in a cool low pressure system moving
in next weekend, with uncertainty in potential of precipitation
and cooler temperatures in the region.

&&

.DISCUSSION...through Sunday.

A ridge of high pressure will build into the region during the
week as the pesky low pressure system finally exits to the east.
Clear skies with mountain top snow are shown in current satellite
imagery, with a warming and drying trend taking over for the next
several days. A few shortwave troughs will advect through the
Desert Southwest over the week, bringing only a slight reduction
in temperatures and breezy northerly winds over the Colorado River
Valley. Elevated winds will create hazardous conditions over area
lakes, with increased wave heights, especially on Tuesday and
Wednesday. Temperatures will remain near seasonal normals through
the week.

Ensemble solutions are continuing to align on another trough
bringing cooler temperatures with a chance of precipitation next
weekend. There remains significant variation on timing and extent
of impacts based on the track of the trough. Forecast outcomes
range from another potentially significant precipitation event for
the region to only a slight increase in winds and decrease in
temperatures. Therefore, forecast confidence in either of these
scenarios is low; however, there is increasing agreement in some
sort of pattern shift.
