ALTHOUGH DECEMBER ENDED WITH A LARGE SNOWSTORM, JANUARY STARTED OFF
WITH SOME RATHER MILD WEATHER. THE TEMPERATURE CLIMBED INTO THE 40S
FROM THE 2ND THROUGH THE 4TH. THE NEXT FEW DAYS SAW TEMPERATURES
CLOSER TO NORMAL FOR JANUARY WITH SOME LIGHT RAIN AND SNOW. THE BIG
WARM UP CAME IN THE SECOND WEEK OF THE MONTH WITH MANCHESTER WARMING
ALL THE WAY TO 66 DEGREES ON THE 11TH AND 69 DEGREES ON THE 12TH. 69
DEGREES IS THE SECOND HIGHEST MONTHLY TEMPERATURE ON RECORD IN
JANUARY. SOON THE TEMPERATURE DROPPED BACK CLOSER TO NORMAL AGAIN
AND SNOW RETURNED. ON THE 16TH, 1.8 INCHES OF SNOW FELL AND A
HEAVIER SNOWSTORM BROUGHT 5.0 INCHES ON THE 18TH AND 19TH, THE LAST
SNOWFALL OF THE MONTH. THE COLDEST TEMPERATURE WAS 7 ON THE 22ND.
HOWEVER, THE NEXT WEEK SAW FREQUENTLY WARM WEATHER AGAIN WITH THE
TEMPERATURE TOPPING 40 DEGREES FOR FIVE STRAIGHT DAYS. RAIN FELL ON
THE NIGHT OF THE 25TH INTO THE MORNING OF THE 26TH WHEN 0.87 INCHES
WAS RECORDED. THAT WAS THE FINAL PRECIPITATION EVENT OF THE MONTH AS
TEMPERATURES REMAINED ABOVE NORMAL TO END THE FIRST MONTH OF 2020.

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 31.8 DEGREES WHICH WAS 7.4
DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THE WARMEST JANUARY ON RECORD WAS IN 1933 WHEN
THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS 32.8 DEGREES. THE COLDEST WAS 12.7
DEGREES IN 1888.

A TOTAL OF 1.99 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION FELL WHICH WAS 1.03 INCHES
BELOW NORMAL. THIS INCLUDED 6.8 INCHES OF SNOW AND SLEET. THE
HEAVIEST PRECIPITATION CAME ON THE 25TH WHEN 0.86 INCHES WAS
MEASURED. THE WETTEST JANUARY WAS IN 1936 WHEN 7.15 INCHES FELL. THE
DRIEST WAS IN 1970 WHEN ONLY 0.60 INCHES WAS MEASURED.

HISTORICAL RECORDS AT MANCHESTER BEGAN IN 1885, BUT WITHIN THIS
RECORD THERE REMAIN NUMEROUS YEARS OF UNAVAILABLE DATA. DUE TO THIS,
HISTORICAL RECORDS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED INCOMPLETE AS SOME
SIGNIFICANT EXTREMES MAY BE MISSING FROM THE DATA. MORE CONSISTENT
MODERN RECORDS BEGAN IN 1998 AND CONTINUE TO THE PRESENT.
