National Weather Service Aberdeen SD
225 PM CDT Thu Oct 2 2025

.DISCUSSION...

Well above normal temperatures will continue through Saturday.
Relative humidity values will fall into the 30 percent range Saturday
afternoon, except fall into the 25 to 30 percent range over portions
of central South Dakota, where elevated fire weather conditions are
possible. Winds will be out of the south with gusts of 30 to near 40
mph over central South Dakota, and closer to 20 to 30 mph across
eastern South Dakota and west central Minnesota.

A cold front over western and central South Dakota Saturday will
slowly move across eastern South Dakota on Sunday. The cold front
will bring showers and a few thunderstorms to the area Saturday
night through Sunday morning, along with stronger winds shifting out
of the northwest on Sunday. The chance of receiving 0.25 inches of
rain or more Saturday night into Sunday morning is greater than 50
percent northwest of a line from Pierre to Aberdeen.

...MODERATE FIRE DANGER...

Marginal weather conditions or lowering moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that there is
some potential for a fire to spread. Any outdoor burning should be
closely monitored.

The outlook for Friday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the high category.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the
probability of a fast moving fire is low. Outdoor burning under
these conditions can usually be performed with reasonable safety
precautions, but should be monitored.

The outlook for Friday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the low to high category.
