...Temperatures during the month of March at La Crosse Wisconsin
was slightly warmer than normal and received near normal
precipitation...

The average temperature for the month was 35.7 degrees, which was
1.2 degrees above normal. The average high temperature was 44.0
degrees and the average low was 27.3 degrees. The highest
temperature for the month was 66 degrees, which occurred on the 6th
and the coldest temperature was 7 degrees, which occurred on the 3rd
and the 14th.

A total of 1.76 inches of precipitation fell during the month.
This was twenty eight hundredths of an inch below normal. The
greatest 24 hour precipitation was thirty six hundredths of an inch
which occurred on the 6th.

A total of 8.0 inches of snow fell in the month. The greatest 24
hour snowfall was 4.0 inches which occurred from the 12th through
the 13th.

The temperature at La Crosse dropped to 51 degrees on the 6th. This
broke the record highest minimum temperature of 48 degrees
previously set in 1983.

...Discussion...

La Crosse was slightly warmer than normal in the month of March. The
coldest stretch occurred from the 10th through the 16th...where the
average daily temperature ranged from 6 to 15 degrees below normal.
There were 7 days where the maximum temperature climbed to or below
32 degrees. There were 19 days where the temperature fell to or
below 32 degrees.

During the month of March...precipitation was near normal. The
driest period during the month occurred from the 13th through the
22nd where nine hundredths of an inch of precipitation fell. The
wettest period occurred from the 23rd through the 30th where seventy
nine hundredths of an inch fell. There were 13 days of measurable
precipitation in the month with zero days of a half of an inch or
more of precipitation.
