...January at La Crosse Wisconsin was warmer than normal and
precipitation was above normal...

The average temperature for the month was 24.0 degrees, which was
degrees 6.6 above normal. The average high temperature was 30.1
degrees and the average low was 17.9 degrees. The highest
temperature for the month was 43 degrees on the 21st and the coldest
temperature was 6 degrees below zero which occurred on the 6th.

A total of 2.69 inches of precipitation fell during the month
...which was 1.57 inches above normal. The greatest 24 hour
precipitation was ninety one hundredths of an inch which from the
9th through the 10th.

A total of 9.5 inches of snow fell in the month. The greatest 24
hour snowfall was 2.9 inches which occurred on the 25th.


The temperature dropped to 36 degrees on the 20th. This broke the
record highest low temperature of 34 degrees previously set in 1921.

The temperature fell to 38 degrees on the 21st. This broke the
record highest low temperature of 34 degrees previously set in 1934.

The temperature fell to 37 degrees on the 22nd. This broke the
record highest low temperature of 36 degrees previously set in 1909.

Forty seven hundredths of an inch of precipitation fell on the 25th.
This broke the record for the daily precipitation amount of forty
six hundredths of an inch previously set in 1950.


La Crosse was warmer than normal in the month of January. The
warmest stretch occurred from the 15th through the 31st...where the
average daily temperature ranged from 2 to 24 degrees above normal.
The coldest stretch occurred from the 4th through the 8th...where
the average daily temperature ranged from 7 to 16 degrees below the
normal. There were 13 days where the maximum temperature was at or
below 32 degrees. There were 5 days where the temperature dropped
below zero during the month.

During the month of January...precipitation was above normal. The
wettest period during the month occurred from the 16th through the
31st where 1.54 inches of precipitation fell. There were 14 days of
measurable precipitation in the month.

...Looking Ahead to February...

The average temperature for February is 22.5 degrees. The average
high is 31.4 degrees and the average low is 13.6 degrees. The
average daily high temperature is 28 degrees on the 1st, and rises
to 36 degrees on the 28th. The average low temperature is 10 degrees
on the 1st and climbs to 19 degrees on the 28th. Normal
precipitation for February is 1.05 inches with 8.2 inches of snow.
