Regional Weather Summary For Eastern Kansas
National Weather Service Wichita KS
343 PM CDT Sun Aug 28 2016
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are splattered across south
central and the eastern half of Kansas this afternoon. These storms
are producing locally heavy rainfall. Temperatures are around 90
degrees. Winds out of the southeast have had speeds of 5 to 10 mph.
The afternoon heating induced storms will continue to develop
through the early evening hours. Some of the storms could have wind
gusts to 50 mph, but these storms will primarily have heavy rain
which could result in flooding with the expected slower movement.
Showers and thunderstorm chances will persist into the nighttime for
the Panhandles and western Kansas. Overnight temperatures are
forecast to fall to the lower 60s in the High Plains to closer to 70
degrees elsewhere. Winds will be out of the east to southeast at 5
to 10 mph.
There is no surprise that the work week will once again be a day
with chances for showers and thunderstorms across most of the
Central Plains. Afternoon temperatures will rise to the upper 80s to
lower 90s for all but western Kansas and eastern Colorado into the
Panhandles which will have highs closer to 80 degrees thanks to
cloud cover and precipitation. Winds are going to have minimal
change with a direction out of the east to southeast at speeds of 5
to 10 mph.
