Denver/Boulder Aviation Discussion

.AVIATION /00Z TAFS through 00Z Wednesday/...
Issued at 554 PM MDT Tue Jun 25 2024
Strong northwesterly winds developed at all airports this
afternoon as showers moved through. These northwest to northerly
winds will weaken through 02-03Z and will eventually become
southeasterly later this evening. Despite a round of showers
cooling the temperatures, there is another batch of showers and
storms near Steamboat Springs. Some high resolution models show
these showers making it to the terminals and they could create
gusty winds up to 35 knots if they did make it. However, the
chance that they survive the journey off the higher terrain and
onto the eastern plains seems low so nothing was changed in the
TAFs.
There is a very low chance that any stratus will form tomorrow
morning. Daytime heating should be able to mix out any moisture
despite northeast winds. There is a higher chance of storms
tomorrow afternoon and these could produce gusty winds up to 35
knots and heavy rain which could reduce visibilities.

.AVIATION /00Z TAFS THROUGH 00Z THURSDAY/...
Issued at 537 PM MDT Tue Jun 25 2024
Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue on the terrain
around the region through sunset. Gusty outflows to around 50
mph are possible with most of these storms. VFR conditions will
return overnight and continue into daybreak. Clouds will
increase Wednesday as another push of monsoonal moisture enters
the region. Cloud cover will come along with widespread showers
and thunderstorms developing on the terrain. Early indications
for the best coverage lean toward areas north of I-70, but
areas south can expect scattered convection to develop as well.
Winds will be light and terrain driven tomorrow, with gusty
outflows around storms expected.

.AVIATION /00Z TAFS THROUGH 00Z THURSDAY/...

Salt Lake City Aviation Discussion
Issued at 2220 UTC Tuesday, June 25, 2024

.AVIATION...KSLC...Northerly winds remain in place over the KSLC
terminal through the daylight hours, reverting back to a southerly
flow around 04Z. Mid-level cloud cover will increase through the
overnight hours with CIGs remaining around 12kft AGL. Vicinity
shower activity will increase through the morning hours tomorrow,
and may bring gusty and erratic winds after 12-13Z.
.REST OF UTAH AND SOUTHWEST WYOMING...Widely scattered showers and
thunderstorms will continue through the remainder of the day across
southern Utah, bringing areas of heavy rainfall as well as gusty and
erratic outflow winds. Showers will continue into the overnight
hours across the western half of Utah, spreading northward by the
early morning hours. A similar threat of gusty and erratic outflow
winds will exist through this period over western Utah. Otherwise,
winds will continue to follow diurnally driven trends outside of
local showers and thunderstorms while maintaining VFR conditions and
CIGs around 10kft or above.

.AVIATION /00Z TAFS THROUGH 00Z THURSDAY/...
Issued at 545 PM MDT Tue Jun 25 2024
VFR conditions will continue through tomorrow morning, with
daytime high-based cumulus thinning out this evening. Isolated
showers and weak thunderstorms persist through sunset south of
KRKS along the WY-CO border, and to the northwest of KCOD along
the WY-MT border, but these are not expected to impact those
locations. On Wednesday morning high cirrus begins to increase.
Increased moisture from the southwest will lead to a 20 to 30%
chance for showers and perhaps an isolated thunderstorm for
sites west of the Divide, as well as KCOD. Have not mentioned
this in the TAFs at those sites at this time, given the low
likelihood. Locations east of the Divide will likely remain dry,
but have a small chance (less than 10%) of a stray shower or
thunderstorm.

West northwest flow aloft will continue, with increasing low and
mid level moisture and a weather disturbance helping to
increase cloud cover and the coverage of showers and
thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon and evening.
Scattered to broken clouds from 8000 to 12000 feet will prevail.
Winds will gust to 30 knots at Rawlins, Laramie, Cheyenne,
Scottsbluff and Sidney until 02Z, and to 28 knots at the Wyoming
terminals after 15Z Wednesday.
