Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Little Rock AR
152 PM CDT Wed Jun 5 2024

...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM...

.SHORT TERM...
(This evening through Friday)
Issued at 151 PM CDT Wed Jun 5 2024

A weakening MCV associated with the morning MCS is slowly rotating
east over central sections of the state...with some lingering SHRA
ongoing just ahead of this MCV. On the back side of this system...NW
winds were ushering in drier air to the state as a cold front drops
SE into the state. Expect the MCV to continue to slowly shift east
this afternoon...with POPs remaining near this MCV for SHRA and
maybe some isolated TSRA. The cold front will continuing pushing SE
through the state tonight...with some drier air filtering south.

By Thu into Thu night...there may be a slight return of higher
dewpts...but a new front will push south into the state for
Fri...with another wave of drier...slightly cooler air moving into
the state to wrap up the short term. Beyond this Wed
afternoon...expect precip chances to remain limited until chances
return to the forecast over the weekend.

.LONG TERM...
(Friday Night through next Wednesday)
Issued at 151 PM CDT Wed Jun 5 2024

Dry conditions are expected to come to an end early in the period.
By the weekend, sfc ridging should shift east of the area providing
a return of S-SW flow ahead of a cold front expected to sink south
into the state.

The expanding H500 ridge across the West is expected to begin to
break down this weekend as a series of intense cyclones over central
Canada work their way south toward the Great Lakes. This will lead
to a NW flow regime over the area and will provide an avenue for a
steady stream of mid-level disturbances to move through. So,
frequent rain chances and possible MCS activity will return to the
forecast.

Temperatures don`t look too out of hand through the period with
portions of northern AR likely experiencing slightly cooler
readings than the rest of the state.
